My parents announced two months ago that they're getting divorced. I (16f) did kinda see it coming but it still makes me sad. My half sister (25f) has been celebrating ever since she heard. She cheered when our dad told her. She has gloated in my mom's and my faces. She told mom she can forget about being a part of her life or going to her wedding now, half sister is engaged. My half sister always hated that dad remarried after her mom d when she was 5, and she said she never wanted to

AITA for not making a bigger deal out of my half sister celebrating the end of my parents marriage?

have my mom or me around. She was always praying for the end of the marriage. She used to try and break them up in the past. Dad would get so mad and frustrated with her but she never let the dream d—and now her dream has come true. The last time mom or I saw my half sister was when dad was moving out. She stopped by briefly and she gloated so hard. This was also when she told mom she was no longer invited to the wedding and no longer going to be

a part of her life. My mom was upset. Despite my half sister's dislike of her and constant disrespect, my mom loves her and she's sad to see it all end before they had a chance to be even friends. Though my mom always wanted to be family to my half sister. My maternal aunt saw my sister had posted on social media a party she threw and it turned out she was celebrating the divorce. My parents were upset. I could shrug it off because I knew she'd be so happy about this and her celebration does not

parents asked me why I'm so calm and collected about this. I told them I expected her reaction and I always knew she wanted this badly. They said they would expect me to be upset. I told them maybe if I expected different from her but I didn't. I pointed out that everyone in her comments knew too. There were loads about how she always called it and how glad they were she got this win. To me it's so dumb.

My aunt confronted me afterward and told me I should be making a bigger deal out of it because it looks like I don't care about the weird and over the top reaction from my half sister. She said mom must feel like I don't care about her heartache at all. That it's rough to see a child she loved and helped raise cheer on the fact she's getting divorced from dad. AITA?

Global-Fact7752 · 20 hr. ago NTAH...your Aunt is d wrong...what your step sister is doing is very trashy as is putting personal things on social media. I'm sure that your mother would not want you to do this. Always keep it classy...

Routine-Narwhal-8244 OP 20 hr. ago My mom would not want me fighting on social media or sharing stuff like this. Neither would my dad. They would still like me to react more but I was so expecting this that it would be fake if I did.

Stankinbigb ty 20 hr. ago I think so too, with the way she celebrating the divorce it's almost like mission accomplished. Just sit back and watch karma work its way!

getting married and celebrating a divorce.. Ironic isn't? Her father is a widower, found someone to marry, and had to get divorced. And most likely it may have been your sister breaking them up (I'm just inserting this, I could be 100% wrong). How about this scenario, a year after your sister gets married she starts having problems..

Guess who she's going to turn to to talk about her problems.. And shame on the aunt for encouraging a 16 year old to behave poorly. I mean, what? You're 16, you're trying to live your life and grow up and you got auntie telling you you should be upset about your sister egging on your father's divorce.. That's too much to ask

Routine-Narwhal-8244 OP 20 hr. ago • I think some of the strain that led to the divorce did probably come from things related to my half sister. Not entirely. But I can imagine after all these years and nothing improving, not even with help from

therapists, and then other issues married people face it was probably all a part of what led them here. If my half sister had any tiny part in it she'll be so happy.

Kooky-Today-3172 17 hr. ago It's sad that your parents let an ADULT with this ridicolous behavior affect their marriage. Half-sis is Lucky that you and your mother are better people than her (and me) because there are so comebacks you guys could do that would shut up her...

blackwillow-99 · 17 hr. ago That's says a lot about her. Karma. She cares more about herself then her father's happiness.

Comfortable_Toe1264 20 hr. ago NTA. Your sister is hurting you and both your parents with her lack of empathy. And to be frank, it doesn't sound like you're happy she's celebrating the end of your parents' marriage, you're just acting very maturely in the face of her childishness, and even said so to your parents. Your aunt seems to think that you

reacting aggressively (while legitimate, your sister sounds immature) would make things better, while this might not necessarily be the case and it might even cause more stress in an already stressful situation.

Routine-Narwhal-8244 OP 20 hr. ago • She wants to hurt me and mom at least. I don't think she wants to hurt dad, I think she wants him to see this as a good thing. But she enjoys knowing it hurts me and mom.

C_Majuscula · 20 hr. ago NTA. If you expected this reaction, it's hard to act surprised or upset when it actually happens. Surely your parents knew she was like this as well. It's too bad that they want performative outrage from you, do they think that would do anything but give her more ammunition to gloat? They should direct their anger at her (and her dad should cut her off), not you.

    • Routine-Narwhal-8244 OP · 20 hr. ago I think they both hoped if actually faced with this she would respond differently. But that kind of dislike/hate doesn't just disappear when a divorce happens.

Rohini_rambles. 18 hr. ago Wondering what support that sister got as a 5yo when her dad remarried and how hard the new stepmother pushed. OP isn't wrong here ar all. When you have realistic expectations, you can pretty much see things for what they are. Hopefully the sister finds her long lost peace now after the divorce she prayed for for so long.

Routine-Narwhal-8244 OP 17 hr. ago • I know my dad had her in play therapy after her mom died. They also did family therapy after my mom came into the picture.
